ANYTHING NEW AT CAMP THIS YEAR?

You betcha. We ask ourselves daily what would be best for kids and then work our tails off to innovate new stuff to blow their minds. Sometimes we accomplish just that. Other times we’re met with that face kids have after hearing a bad dad joke. Either way, we never rest until we feel like we’ve got something good.

Here are some of the highlights of what we are working on for summer 2019.

WE’RE MAKIN’ A MAKERSPACE

Nothing screams Steve & Kate’s self-directed learning philosophy quite like tinkering with tools and materials to create new things. Campers tackle Maker challenges like building model vehicles and creating instruments using found and recyclable materials. While we don’t guarantee that your child’s vehicle will get you around town—in fact we guarantee that it won’t—campers will have the chance to let their imaginations run wild.

DAILY FEATURES SPICE THINGS UP

Throughout each week, every camp will spice up their respective activity lineups with featured workshops like dance or improv; live shows like musicians or magicians; and large recreational showstoppers like rock climbing walls or bungee trampolines. We generally schedule the most jaw dropping feature on Fridays. This is all in addition to our recreational features like inflatable slip and slides, go karts, and other activities that are getting face lifts. In fact, Patrick, who buys everything for camp, just came back from an amusement industry trade show where he was working with vendors on custom inflatables and finding the latest inventions to bring to camp. And yes—he does have the best job. Exact schedules will be on each location’s page starting in January.

WE’RE AMPING UP PLAY

Self-directed play is at the heart of what we do—children learn to flex creative muscles, problem solve, take healthy risks, cope with failure and develop other crucial skills. In addition to our many outdoor outlets for play, we’re amping up indoor play at each camp featuring a variety of building blocks and giant board games.

PODCASTING IS NOW IN THE MUSIC STUDIO

Campers can now record podcasts. There is a lot to discuss these days and podcasting will give kids an outlet to express their thoughts—whether they be political or a collection of love poems for their imaginary pets.

BREAD GOES BEYOND WHEAT

Kids can now experiment with other baked goods like cornbread or top their creations with a variety of new flavors—pumpkin spice bread anyone? No need to panic, the classic french loaves will still be a mainstay. Sites that do sushi instead of bread will also see new twists on the classics like coconut sticky rice and dessert rolls.

OUR CODING APP GETS NEW LEVELS

Our proprietary coding app allows children to learn the concepts of coding via gamification. This year we’re adding new levels introducing campers to new challenges and functions. They can then take those newly learned concepts to our coding workshop to make their own app.

NEW ROBOTS EXPLORE A NEW WORLD

Campers will build, drive, and code robots through all new obstacle courses and challenges.
In addition to the buildable Mabots, we're introducing the Sphero Bolt––a programmable bot with a light sensor, accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, and infrared sensor. With that kind of oomph, these robots can be coded to do anything from navigating our custom obstacle course to working as a high tech fortune teller.

WE NOW DO MORE THAN SUMMER

We have launched Steve & Kate’s BREAK—a camp-style event during Winter and Spring breaks at select locations in CA, NY, and WA. We plan to expand those offerings to more locations next year.
