Your Year-Round Career Starts Here

The Assistant Director training program allows you to gain experience in a fun, rewarding, and meaningful profession. The goal is for you to readily transition into a year-round Camp Director when positions become available. If you’re interested in a full-time career at Steve & Kate’s Camp, start here.

Learn the building blocks of running a Steve & Kate’s Camp with our online & in-person training program.

Assist in running all aspects of in-person camp with the support of your Camp Director.

Join the year round Steve & Kate’s team?! Half of our new directors worked as an Assistant Director in the previous summer.

What will my role be?

You will work alongside your Camp Director to help run all facets of camp. You’ll build relationships with hundreds of parents and children, discover passions, and build your confidence in running a successful program.  You’ll also help train, lead, and inspire a team – all while overseeing the day-to-day operations of your site.

What training will I receive?

Before camp starts you’ll complete 80 hours of paid training aimed at setting you up for success as a camp leader from day one.  Once on-site you’ll receive training from your Camp Director and have check-ins throughout the summer with our People Operations Specialist to support you in your camp leadership journey! Below you’ll find the ‘Slices of the Leadership Pie’ which is a snapshot of the Assistant Director training to be completed prior to the start of summer camp. Full training details, time commitment, and responsibilities will be communicated upon hire.

Slices of the Leadership Pie

What’s more fun than pie-day? In this section you will discover fun and innovative ways to engage kids and staff in the day to day life while incorporating Steve & Kate’s traditions-like pie-day!

From check in and out to parent communication in this section you’ll peel back the layers to understand all that goes into making camp possible.

Nothing brings people together like a gameshow! In this section you will learn how to create a welcoming  and inclusive camp day for kids and staff.

How do I know if I'm a good candidate?

Assistant Camp Directors are an integral part of our summer camp team. Successful Assistant Directors draw upon their previous camp experience to support all aspects of summer camp. Assistant Directors are skilled communicators who work with kids, parents, and staff. They not only bring the fun and magic to camp, but they inspire staff and kids to do the same.

What happens after summer?

Once summer is wrapped and you have completed the program, Assistant Directors will be notified when full time director positions are available. While all candidates need to go through the interview process and all applications need to be considered; completion of our Assistant Director training program will set you up for success. There is no better interview prep than lived experience of our philosophy, standards, and one-of-a kind summer camp experience. The goal is to have new full time directors hired by January of the following year. In the interim if you would like to work we can connect you with branches of the Bright Horizons family who are hiring in your area of interest.
